This article summarizes the most common issues taxpayers encounter when self-filing Personal Income Tax (PIT) finalization through the eTax Mobile application, together with practical solutions for each case. It aims to help taxpayers quickly resolve issues relating to dependents, tax finalization dossiers, tax refunds, system errors, and personal information, ensuring a smooth tax finalization process.

1. Tax Identification Number (TIN) Has Been Updated with the Personal Identification Number, but eTax Displays “Unable to Retrieve Dependent Information”

Solution:

  • Check the dependent’s status by searching for the dependent on the system and identify which TIN remains valid (ignore canceled TINs). Ensure the dependent has been properly registered for family deduction during the 2025 tax year.
  • Update the dependent’s information using Form 20-ĐK-TH-TCT (Registration/Modification of Dependents) on eTax and update the Citizen Identity Card (CCCD) information. If the issue persists, contact the tax authority to synchronize or reactivate the dependent’s TIN.

2. Duplicate Dependent Registration – One Taxpayer Wishes to Remove the Dependent

Solution:

  • While preparing Form 02/QTT-TNCN, open Appendix 02-1/BK-QTT-TNCN.
  • Locate the duplicated dependent and click the Delete (trash bin) icon to remove the dependent from your declaration, or adjust the “Deduction Period – To Month” accordingly.
  • Complete and submit the tax return. The system will record that you are no longer claiming the deduction, allowing the other taxpayer to register the dependent.
  • Once the tax return is accepted, the dependent’s TIN will become available for the other taxpayer.
  • The remaining taxpayer should select Add New Dependent and enter the required information.

3. A Dependent Was Registered Previously but Does Not Appear on eTax

Possible Causes:

  • Information has not yet been synchronized with the National Population Database.
  • The employer has not updated the dependent information.
  • Application error.
  • The dependent has no TIN or the TIN has not been standardized.

Solution:

  • Update eTax Mobile to the latest version from Google Play or the App Store.
  • Manually add the dependent under Declare Dependents in Appendix 02-1/BK-QTT-TNCN if supporting documents are available.
  • Update the registration using Form 20-ĐK-TH-TCT and update the CCCD information.
  • Contact the employer or the tax authority to verify the dependent’s registration and TIN status.

4. Dependent Information Appears in eTax but Does Not Display in the Tax Return

Solution:

  • Exit the tax return, log back into eTax Mobile, reload the tax finalization data, and verify each dependent’s deduction period, validity period, relationship, CCCD, and TIN.
  • If the system still does not automatically populate the information, manually add the dependent in Appendix 02-1/BK-QTT-TNCN.

5. Tax Finalization Was Completed Long Ago but the Refund Has Not Been Received

Solution:

  • Check the application status in Application Inquiry on eTax Mobile (Received, Processing, Additional Information Required, Refund Approved, Transferred to Treasury, etc.).
  • If the status remains unchanged for an extended period, contact the tax authority for assistance.

6. Dependent Information Exists but the Appendix Reports an Error

Solution:

  • Update the dependent’s information on eTax Mobile and review the appendix again.

7. Reporting Fraudulent Income Declared by an Employer on eTax Mobile

Solution:

  • Open eTax Mobile → Tax Finalization Information Inquiry → Select the relevant tax year → Search → View Details.
  • If fraudulent income is identified, select Submit Information to the Tax Authority.
  • Choose one of the following:
    • I did not earn income from this payer; or
    • The income payer declared incorrect income information.
  • Provide the reason, attach supporting documents (if any), confirm the declaration, and submit the report.

8. Error: “Taxpayer Information Not Found in the National Population Database”

Solution:

  • Verify that your registered information matches your Citizen Identity Card (CCCD). If your name or date of birth is incorrect, update the information and select Retrieve CCCD Information.
  • If all information is correct but the error persists, contact the police authority to update the National Population Database or submit an information adjustment request to your local tax authority.

9. Status of Form 02/QTT-TNCN: “Accounting Package Failed – Tax Officer to Classify the Error”

Solution:

  • Wait for the system to automatically reprocess the application.
  • If the error remains, contact the tax authority where the return was submitted and request that they reprocess the declaration.
  • Do not resubmit the tax return in this case.

10. Status of Form 02/QTT-TNCN: “Accounting Package Failed Due to Taxpayer Error”

Solution:

  • The tax authority will send a notification by email, or you can check the Notification Inquiry section on the public service portal.
  • Review the reported error and submit a corrected tax return.

11. Multiple Attempts to Submit an Amended Tax Return Have Failed

Solution:

  • Review the status of previously submitted tax returns.
  • If the original return has been successfully processed, submit the first amended return.
  • If the original return has not been successfully processed, resubmit the original return.
  • If the first amended return has been successfully processed, you may submit the second amended return.

12. Tax Return Submitted to the Wrong Tax Authority

Solution:

  • Verify whether the correct tax authority was selected.
  • If the correct authority was selected, submit an explanatory letter together with supporting documents.
  • If the return was submitted to the wrong authority, submit a request to cancel the incorrect tax return and resubmit it after the cancellation has been completed.
